Greeley Options and Homeschool
Why it might be the right choice for your child
who and what is Greeley options?
The Options program is part of Aurora Public Schools, open to students in grades K-12, and is designed to support parents who choose to instruct their children at home. Parents remain the primary instructional provider, with the school supplementing and complementing their efforts.
how much do options classes cost?
All classes at Greeley Options are FREE to families. This is possible because, as a public school, Options receives a portion of the Per Pupil Operating Revenue (PPOR) distributed at the state level for each enrolled student. This money is used to pay salaries, to purchase curriculum and supplies, pay church site rental, and other costs associated with running the program.
why would parents choose options?
Parents choose to place their child in Options so their children can be a part of a classroom experience while still receiving all the benefits of homeschooling. Parents value the opportunity for students to share academic time with peers. Students are able to participate in group activities such as PE classes, Musical Productions, and School Dances for older students. They will also experience the rigor of a regular classroom setting with the accountability that comes from deadlines and the need to demonstrate organizational skills.
The Options teachers, administrators, and support staff are knowledgeable, well trained, and dedicated to educational excellence. Many are homeschool parents as well, with their own children in attendance at Greeley Options. All Options teachers are fully accredited and must hold a valid Colorado teacher’s license appropriate for their assignment. Student-teacher ratios are far below those in most public schools and teachers are able to give students the personal attention necessary for an outstanding educational experience.
Another very important aspect is that through enrollment with Options, parents have the availability of textbooks and curriculum provided by APS Options. Curriculum is available to parents for their home use for annual check out, including teacher editions, at no cost except for consumables. Parents are able to order cost-effective, reusable curriculum. Curriculum is chosen and purchased based on parent request and are from popular homeschool catalogs. Items are returned at the end of the school year.
What is the partnership between Options and homeschooling?
Parents connected with the Options program consider homeschooling their primary means of educating their students. Parents still follow Colorado Homeschool Law: https://www.cde.state.co.us/choice/homeschool
